Our door in Jyatha, Thamel

Born from a love of good coffee

Chikusa opened its doors in Jyatha in 1998 as a small counter with a big idea: that a good cup of coffee should be brewed slowly, by hand, for someone you know by name.

More than twenty-five years later the counter has grown and the neighbourhood has changed around us, but the idea hasn’t. Every cup is still hand-brewed to order, and every guest is still welcome to stay as long as they like.

What we believe

Patience over speed

Good coffee can’t be rushed. Every cup is hand-brewed to order and given the time it needs.

Real ingredients

Fresh eggs, real butter, local honey and milk. If we wouldn’t serve it at home, it doesn’t reach your table.

People first

Regulars, first-timers, travellers passing through — you’re a guest here, never a ticket number.
